The following websites provide information relevant to climate science, adaptation research and the primary industries.
RESEARCH IN CLIMATE CHANGE AND PRIMARY INDUSTRIES ADAPTATION
Australian Agriculture and Natural Resources On-line (AANRO) – a national online database of agricultural and natural resource management research information.
CSIRO Adaptation Flagship – one of CSIRO’s National Research Flagships, delivering scientific information and expertise to support Australia's efforts to adapt to climate change.
Climate Works – a partnership between the Myer Foundation and Monash University developing projects that deliver substantive and lasting reductions in greenhouse gas emissions.
Greenhouse in Agriculture – a collaborative research program between the University of Melbourne, the Victorian Department of Primary Industries, the dairy, meat and grains RDCs and the Future Farm Industries CRC.
National Centre for Rural Greenhouse Research – a joint initiative between NSW Industry and Investment and the University of New England to provide solutions to the challenges posed to primary industries by climate change, and to take advantage of the opportunities that climate change presents.
SARDI Climate Applications – a unit of the South Australian Research and Development Institute, working to deliver research on climate change and variability directly to farmers and improve adaptive capacity.
Victorian Centre for Climate Change Adaptation Research (VCCCAR) – a Victorian Government-funded institution established to undertake a program of multidisciplinary climate change adaptation research and contribute to the development of strategies to implement effective adaptation measures.
Centre for Australian Weather and Climate Research (CAWCR)– a partnership between the Bureau of Meteorology and CSIRO established to ensure that Australia remains a world leader in climate, weather and oceans research.
GOVERNMENT-FUNDED CLIMATE CHANGE INITIATIVES
Australian Centre for Renewable Energy – a part of the federal government’s Clean Energy Initiative, and aims to promote the development, commercialisation and deployment of renewable energy and enabling technologies and to improve their competitiveness in Australia.
Garnaut Climate Change Review – an independent study conducted by economist Professor Ross Garnaut, commissioned by Australia's federal, state and territory governments in 2007.
Managing Climate Variability Program – a collaborative research program between rural RDCs and the federal Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry aimed at helping farmers to manage climate.
Climate Research Strategy for Primary Industries (CCRSPI) – a national collaborative partnership between the Rural Research and Development Corporations; the state and territory governments; the Australian Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry; and the CSIRO, working to develop and implement a cross-sectoral strategy for climate change research in primary industries. How is PIARN different from CCRSPI?
FEDERAL AND STATE GOVERNMENT CLIMATE CHANGE AGENCIES
Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations – climate change adaptation information
Food Climate Research Network – a UK-based initiative aiming to improve understanding of how the food system contributes to greenhouse gas emissions, and to research and promote ways of reducing emissions.
United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC) – provides news, data, information and documents on the UNFCC (an international treaty) and the Kyoto Protocol.
Climate Decisions Project - a North American project concerned with decision-aiding for forestry, fisheries, and biodiversity preservation decisions about climate change adaptation.
